TUINA

Tuina is an ancient system of massage of the Chinese medical tradition. It originates from the history self of China and therefore it goes back to more than 3000 years ago.
Tui-Na literally means “to push” and “to grasp”. The name identifies with two fundamental techniques of this massage, which together with An-Mo, “to press” and “to rub”, are the main 4 techniques of the system.
The Tuina method is one of the five pillars of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), beside acupuncture, pharmacological therapy, dietetic and the therapies dealing with movement (Qi Gong and Tai Ji Quan).
What we today consider Tuina is a system of manual practises working on the body structure under the point of view of the Chinese tradition.

Tuina includes different systems of treatment: massage, movement, stretching, manipulation and the use of herbs.
These techniques are used on the whole of the body surface to face different kinds of problems.
What makes the Tuina method differ from the Western methods of massage and from acupression?
Tuina combines techniques of massage and of manipulations, special and very effective, with the knowledge of the acupuncture points and of the typical channels of the vast TCM system.

The effects of Tuina can be summarised as follows:
Harmonises the nervous system, makes blood, lymph and energy circulate
Relieves pain and reduces inflammation
Rehabilitates joints
Enhances organic defenses
The system practised within the Association follows the direct teachings of Proff. Guo Rong (Gordon) Xu, born in Shanghai and living in Florida.
Dr. Xu worked in Shanghai in a local hospital and then at the Tuina Central Hospital, where he refined his medical practises on Tuina and acupuncture.
He then integrated his knowledge with his experience and his practise of martial art. He presently practices and teaches at the Acupuncture and Massage College di Miami.
